WBPSC Clerkship Prelims Syllabus :

The Clerkship Exam conducted by WBPSC has two parts:

  • Part I – Objective type (General Studies, Arithmetic, and English)

  • Part II – Descriptive type (Letter writing and comprehension in English/Bengali/Nepali/Hindi).

General Studies covers history, geography, politics, current affairs, basic general science, and reasoning ability. The level of questions stays around standard 10. Students should study:

  • West Bengal General Studies

  • Lucent’s General Knowledge – for national static topics

  • Newspapers and current affairs from at least the past six months.

Arithmetic — questions come from chapters such as percentage, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, ratio, time and work, and simplification. Students should refer to:

English — covers grammar (voice, narration, parts of speech), vocabulary, and comprehension.

  • Recommended book: Wren & Martin for grammar basics, and TWS PDFs for clerkship-level questions.

 Part II (Descriptive):
It tests writing skills. Practice short letters, applications, and précis writing every week.
Candidates must practice previous years’ descriptive papers to understand the word limit and style.

Regarding Preparation Tips:

  • Create a weekly study plan dividing time among GS, English, and Maths.

  • Solve mock tests every weekend.

  • Don’t ignore current affairs; questions appear from WB schemes, national awards, and important dates.
